Prior to construction the site was a fire disaster during WW2 where it served as an aircraft hangar, recycling machinery had been present in the past 6 years. However, a new Materials Recovery Facility had been devised with a primarily focus on plastics bottles to utilise the area effectively.
The aim of the project was to reenergise the area as efficient as possible, including time constraints which resulted in overlap between the design and construction stages of development. Despite the reduced time frame, the 10,000m2 facility was successfully established and active within 11 months of initial removal of the previous structure, all specialist contractors from Germany, Scandinavia, Slovenia, Ital and the USA all assisted to make this possible.
Robinson Structures made a major contribution to the delivery of the project through applying good project management disciplines, maintaining good working relationships with all contractors and through exceptional knowledge of the construction elements of the project Simon Faulkner, Operations Director, ECO Plastics
